What’s the best way to start (another!) exciting year? Some exciting recaps, of course.
First up — our community garden project.
In August we were awarded a grant from Scott County to help us revitalize our community garden space. Late summer meant getting construction into full swing, and we’re so excited about our partnerships with tremendously talented Cedar Brook Garden Center and D&J Landscaping. Plans are rolling!
We’re envisioning berry bushes and fruitful grape vines. We foresee a rain garden and a composting system available for all.
Most importantly, we’re working to provide great food for EVERYONE … not just Farmhouse Market members or customers. Everyone in our community will have a place in the garden, and we’ll definitely be looking for ways to donate to our local schools and food shelf whenever possible.
If our cute new fence isn’t enough for you, consider this your sneak peak!
Next we have the Community Dinner. Yes, we’re still talking about it. It was that great.
Four amazing courses made with the freshest ingredients, local cheeses, bread, wine, beer and Margie’s famous kolackies.
Community members bonded over recollections of great meals past in the Hotel Broz dining room. There were appetizers, drinks, live music and — of course — good conversation.
Through this event, we hoped to bring together, in gratitude, the members and local food producers who supported our first year in business.
Honestly? We’re already scouting locations for next year.
